ENTRY REQUIREMENT
University/College will assess whether students meet the selection criteria set for the proposed course of study. In addition, they will look at the level and content of the study student have completed in their home country. A combination of the country of residence determines the assessment level of each applicant and the visa subclass opted. Each applicant is thus assigned an assessment level on a scale of 1 to 3, where assessment level 1 is the lowest and assessment level 3 is the highest.
The higher the assessment level, the more proof you need to demonstrate your financial capacity and understanding of the English language. For example, if you have an assessment level of 2 or 3, make your first student visa application outside Australia. However, suppose you are applying from outside Australia, and your visa application is assessed at an assessment level 3 or 4. In that case, you must provide an offer of a place in a course’ letter from the Australian education provider while submitting your application Certificate of Electronic confirmation of enrolment issued by the education provider after you submit your application. These are the required steps for entry:
- A valid passport
- Submit a student visa (Subclass 500) application
- Your Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
- Academic and work experience details
- Proof of enrolment (your electronic confirmation of enrolment)
- Evidence of your English proficiency skills (book your place in the IELTS test)
- Details of your health insurance policy (Overseas Student Health Cover )
- Proof of funds which will cover the studies, living, and traveling expenses
- Your visa application fee
- Airfare going and returning
- Statement of purpose
- A student’s spouses & Dependents may accompany them to study in Australia on a ‘Dependents’ Visa.
MAINTAINING STUDENT VISA
You need to comply with the visa conditions, which usually come into effect after entering Australia. Compliance with your visa conditions and policies is essential to avoid visa cancellation.
- Maintain your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your visa.
- Remain with the same education provider you enrolled prior for the first six months of your course or, if in case a course is less than six months, then applicable for the duration of your course
- Suppose you are an alone student applicant under 18 years of age. In that case, you need to acquire the written approval of your education provider before you change your address, support, and welfare arrangements in Australia.
- If you wish to change your education provider, then you must inform your current education provider within seven days of issue of an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE)
- Leaving Australia before your visa expires, or to apply for another eligible visa
STUDENT VISA -SUBCLASS 500
International students who offer acceptance in a full-time study program from a recognized Australian institute need to obtain a valid student visa subclass 500. Under this visa category, the students are allowed to stay and study for more than a month than the actual duration of the course they are enrolled in, depending on the program applied for.
ENGLISH TEST REQUIREMENT
Students need sufficient English language proficiency and meet minimum academic requirements to study in Australia when applying for a student visa. Australian education institutions accept students having an appropriate level of English proficiency. However, institutions set their English language requirements and may have different IELTS entry levels for the proposed course level than those required for a student visa.
